Sugar Act
Britain placed a tax on sugar and molasses without consulting the colonies. This made the Americans anrey that they had no say in this taxation, and so they started the chant," No taxation without representation!" -
Quartering Act
After the French and Indian War, the British sent their forces to America because they felt America 'needed protection'. This angered the colonies because they had been fine protecting themselves all these years. In addition to that, the colonies were expected to house, feed, and pay for these people agenst their will. Eventually leads to stamp act. -
Stamp Act
Britain placed a tax on stamps that HAD to be on everything that was paper. Books, letters, newspapers, and pamphlets all needed stamps, which coast money. This was a poor choice on Britains part because this tax angered people that were influential to the public. Major political speakers spoke agenst this and convince the colonies that this was an outrage. -
Boston Massacre
A crowd of people in Boston gather around a group of British soldiers and start to harass them by throwing insults. The British then defend themselves by shooting into the crowd without orders. This has an effesct of killing 5 men and injuring 6. This stirrs up propiganda who blow up the event to make it seem as if the British are cruel murderers. This didn't help Britan's case at all as the American people started to think less and less of them and stirred more towards revolution. -
The Tea Act
The British try to force the colonists to buy tea from them, but the colonists refused to buy tea from Britan which lead to the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
A result of the Tea Act, colonists of Boston refused to allow the ships from the East Indian Company to unload their cargo at Boston. In the meantime a group of men dressed themselves as indians, snuck into the British ship, and destroyed all the cargo. Most of the tea was dumped into the ocean and Britan was furious. This lead to the Intolorable Acts. -
Intolorable Acts
This was a series of laws passed by the British Parlament ment to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. This took away Massachusett's rights to self-govern and historic rights. These things angered the colonists greatly and eventually lead to the start of the American Revolution. -
First Continental Congress
A meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies that met at Carpender's Hall. They met to discuss matters such as boycotting British goods, discuss rights, and grievances. They tried appealing to the crown which had no effect, so started war amoungst the colonists and Britan. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
These were the first military battlles of the Revolutionary War. The British send 700 military ships with people and are given the mission of destroying military supplies for the colonists. The colonists hear about this in advance and plan a counter by sending their own men into battle. They defend the supplies and start the Revolutionary War.
