Meeting in Philadelpia
-There was 55 delegates that met in Philadelphia to start something that represented the good in America. -
First Continental Congress meets
-All colonies but Georgia have representatives
-voted to send a "statement of grievance"
-vote to boycott all British Trade
-Patrick Henry-VA re. urged colonists to unite against Britan -
British Troops were sent to conrad to destory the artillery
-They did this to destroy and seize the weapons from the colonists -
Paul Revere and William Daves alert people of Lexington
William Dave's and Paul Revere rode to Lexington to alert the people that the British were coming to attack. -
The battle of Lexington and Concord
-The British ran into around 70 minutemen.
-Afters them firing at each other (well the minutemen were terribly outnumber)
-At least 174 soldiers were wounded, and 73 were dead.

Connecticut seized Fort Ticonderoga
-Benedict Arnold joined forces with the green mountain boys, and planned the attack.
-Their plan took the British by surprise and they surrendered. -
The second continental Congress
-The meeting included lots of great leaders
-They sent a petition(a formal request) to George 111 to offer the last chance to avoid war.
-the colonists wanted peace
-the king rejected the petition so he prepared for war and hired 30,000 German Troops -
Posts were set up across the harbor for Boston
-They sent up posts on Bunker hill and Breed's hill and camped there for the night -
The battle of Bunker Hill
-Lexington and Concord joined colonial militias and the militia outnumber around 20,000 strong.
-The Americans ran out of gun powder and had to retreat.
-The British won but they lost more the 1,000 British either died or wounded -

Washington moved his troops and cannon into the city
-the move surprised the British
-William Howe (British General) told his soldiers to board ships and leave Boston.
-The British troops sailed away to Halifax, Nova Scotia (which is a a part of Canada) -

Washington read the declaration to his troops
-Washington read this to his troops because he believed that it would make his men better to fight against Great Britain.
-He believed that if they heard this that they would believe that they would be fighting for a new nation
