Missouri Compromise
Drew an imaginary line through the middle of the US (Mason Dixon) (Missouri to Cali.) that helped solve the issue of slavery for 34 years. Any state above the line would be free (except Missouri) and any state below the line would be slave. -
Compromise of 1850
California's population grows due to gold and the issue of it being a free or slave state comes up. The result is California becoming free, there is no slavery in the capitol, and the Fugitive Slave Act is passed. -
Kansas/Nebraska Act
If the South lets railroads run through the North, the Missouri Compromise line will be replaced with the Popular Sovereignty line. -
Bleeding Kansas
People living in Kansas are supposed to vote for the state to be free or slave, but voters from other states sneak in. Arguments got heated and voters began fighting. -
Sumner-Brooks Incident
Northern Senator, Sumner, says bad things about Southern Senator, Butler. Butler is not there to defend himself, so his cousin Brooks defends him, Brooks beats Sumner with a cane to do so. -
John Brown's Raid
John Brown recruited a group of slaves and attempted to start an uprising in Harper's Ferry, VA.
