Charles Luciano earns the name lucky
Charles Luciano (born Salvatore Lucania) is captured by lackies of Joe Masseria, and is tortured. He survives and is given the nickname "Lucky". -
St. Valentines Day Massacre.
Members of Al Capones gang disguised themselves as police and murdered members of Bugs Moran's gang. -
Death of Joe Masseria
Luciano made a power move. He invited Masseria to dinner, and whilst walking into the bathroom four gunmen emerged and shot Masseria. -
Death of Salvatore Maranzano
To finish his rise to power, Luciano ordered the death of Salvatore Maranzano, head of all crime families in New York. -
Establishment of La Cosa Nostra
Luciano abolished the "Capo Di Tutti Capi" (boss of all bosses), an set up the commission. He spread the power of the crime families equally among five bosses, who headed the five families.
