    In 1919 Benito Mussolini started Fascist party; The country is more important than the person.
    In 1926 Stalin takes control of the USSR, imposed communism, and killed 8-10 million Russians; responsible for the most human deaths ever by a single person.
    Hitler came into power in 1934, but was in prison before that 1923-1928. In his book he wrote in prison, he describes the Aryans, blonde hair blue eyes, as the superior race.

    Fascism in Italy

    Benito Mussolini in 1919 created the group Fascio di Combattimento, league of combat political party, or the Fascists. He marched on Rome, with hundreds of his supporters, in 1922. Once in power, He got rid of free speech in publications and created a secret police, OVRA, to watch the citizens’ political activities and enforce government policies.

    Throughout the depression after the first World War, many dictators have risen from the ashes of unlucky starving and dying countries. They came from five different countries... the first was Stalin from the USSR, the second was Francisco Franco from Spain,the 3rd was Mussolini from Italy, 4th Hirohito from Japan, and last was Hitler from Germany.

    Stalin was committed to socialism, and did believe a socialist society would emerge from his reforms but this did not happen. Because of some of the opposition, Stalin made use of brutal police terror to eliminate opinions contrary to his ruling. The number of arrests during Stalin’s time were at least 8 million; with millions never returning from prison or work camps. Under Stalin’s orders the government frequently used propaganda to display capitalism as an undesirable way of living.

    The great depression in the 1930’s had a major effect on Germany, Due to the treaty of Versailles it hit Germany hard, after that the hyperinflation struck Germany and worldwide. They Created a system where when you worked at the end of the day the country would give you 500 million marks; bread cost 140 billion marks

    The Great Depression was the probable cause to some of the Rise in Dictatorships
    Europe after WW1 was politically unstable and suffered an economic decline due to the Great Depression (1929-1939). Post war devastations severely affected European countries to the extent that some suffered from poverty due to massive unemployment. This created tensions between countries, eliminating any chance of peace. It was in this instability that totalitarianism emerged as a form of government. In this then new form of government state now had complete control of society.

    Japan's Problems and USA's involvement
    Japan lacked resource due to being an island and the military took control of the government and invaded Manchuria, China in 1931. Hitler, Mussolini, and Japan became allies and Eurasia became volatile.
    USA wanted to stay neutral during the building of dictatorships in Europe and recover from the Great Depression. They passed Neutrality Act of 1935 and Neutrality Act of 1937.

    World War I left Japan with a weak economy and very little natural resources. Japan wanted their econemy to improve, so they felt that they needed to expand to do so. In the early 1930’s, military officers began to hold political office and gain support by the people. By 1936, the military officers had control over the government, which then glorified the idea of war and the training of warriors.

    Hitler Expands his ruling

    Hitler moved troops in 1936 to French border, which is against the WW1 treaty, but nothing happens. Mussolini and Hitler formed the Axis Powers for Spain to become a Fascist government. Hitler expanded into Austria.

    The French created and passed a law to allow citzens the right to collectively bargin for wages, work time, vacations, and etc., as the US had just done earlier to solve their unemployment problems. Unfortunately for the French, the deal did not solve the depression problems there even though the rest of the world was progressing.

    Hitler Expanding past guidelines of other Nations

    Then Hitler wanted Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia, but no one allowed it. The British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain met with Hitler to give him Sudetenland for the promise that Hitler will not seek more land. Hitler broke the promise and took all of Czechoslovakia and passed a Non-Aggression Pact with Stalin and the Soviet Union. Then he invaded Poland and WW2 offically began.
