Plessy v. ferguson
Plessy v. ferguson was a landmark supreme court case about segregation. The ruling was that the racial segregation should continue. This further perpetuated the idea that they were separate but equal. -
Brown v. board of education
A case went to the supreme court to see if segregation of public school was constitutional. The SC ruled that it wasn't legal to segregate public school. This was a huge win for the civil rights movement and a crushing blow to racist people.5/1954 -

A fourteen year old boy by the name of emmett till was murdered. He was killed while visiting family in mississippi. He was killed literally for no other reason then being african american. 8/1955 -
rosa parks and the bus boycott
Rosa Parks was a african american women that one day while riding the bus decided not to sit in the back were it had been designated the area where colored people would sit. Ms. Parks was arrested for this act of defiance. This ignited the a feeling in many peoples hearts prompting the bus boycott. 12/1955 -
Founding of Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) & Martin Luther King
MLK made the SCLC in order to have a regional organization that could better coordinate civil rights protest activities across the South. this was to coordinate civil rights protesting activities. 1/1957 -

The Little Rock Nine was African American students that were enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957.the governor didn't want them attending so he put the national guard in front of the doors, so the president sent the military to personally escort them to school. -
greensboro sit in
From february to july of 1960 african american would walk in and sit in establishments that would only serve white people. They would stay there this they were served or forcibly removed from the place. This was a form of peaceful protest. -
freedom rides
the freedom rider were a group of people that went traveling around the country on a bus. In the bus there were black and white people sitting together but in alabama they were stopped and beaten because they were causing "disruption". from may to december -

In august of 1963 there was a civil rights protest in washington. the protest was attended by 250000 plus people and MLK gave his famous "i have a dream speech. this was one of the biggest and moving demonstrations of the whole civil rights movement.
