Boynton v. Virginia
The Supreme Court banned segregation on interstate buses. With that waiting rooms and restaraunts couldn't be segregated either. CORE and SNCC decided to do freedom rides to test if states would obey the law. -
First Freedom RIde
Seven blacks and six whites left Washington D.C going to the South. They were going to test the Supreme Court's ruling in Boynton v. Virginia. -
Arrive in Rock Hill
When the group arrived in the bus station in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the group met the first violence. A group of 20 people were there and they attacked them. Eventually police came in and broke it up. -
Arrive in Atlanta
The riders arrived in Atlanta, Georgia where there was a speech given by Martin Luther King. He warned about the violence ahead that they were going to meet. -
Trouble in Alabama
A heavily armed white mob was waiting for the buses in Anniston, Alabama. The bus burst into flames, but the riders were able to escape. However, when they got out they were beaten by the mob. -
New Volunteers Arrive
Many riders are severely beaten when they arrive in Birmingham, Alabama. They end up needing to bring in more volunteers from Nashville to continue the rides. -
Even more Trouble in Alabama
The riders arrived at Montgomery and were yet again beaten by a crowd. Abernathy and King lead a msss rally. -
End of the First Freedom RIde
When the buses arrived in Jackson, Mississippi, the riders were all arrested in the bus terminal. Its is the end of the First freedom ride. -
Freedom Rides Continue
More freedom rides kept going on for a while until they desegregated the bus. Many of them got attack by white mobs for doing this. -
The Rides End
TH freedom rides end when Kennedy and the Interstate Commerce Comission issued regulation prohibitiong segregation inthe interstate transit terminals.
