On September 1,1191 Richard the Lionhearted defeated Saladin at the battle of Acre Richard then tried to make a peace treaty, but it was denied by Saladin. Near the end of the year conditions got worse and Saladin began to consider a peace negotiation.

In the December of 1192 King Richard was captured in Austria. He was traveling thruough Austria in disguise when the diku of Austria captured him. Richard had offended the Duke of Austria in the battle of Acre. The price for King Richard the linheart's release was twice the annual revenues of England.

Death
Died on April 6, 1199 at Chalus in Limousin and was buried at Fontevraud Abbey. He died while he was in battle, the way he probably would have wanted to die. He died from a shot by a crossbow. He was 41 years old when he died.
