Rezone Timeline

  • Application Submitted

Hutcheson Estate on behalf of Gateway submitted the application to rezone the parcel from A-1 to R-2
  • First Public Hearing

The first public hearing is held at the monthly planning commission meeting. The planning commission voted to recommend the commissioner deny the rezone request.
  • Second Public Hearing(Scheduled but NOT HELD)

The public hearing was scheduled to occur immediate before the regular county commissioner meeting. Commissioner Whitfield informed the audience that the developer could not be there and that the second public hearing would be rescheduled and advertised so that all parties could be heard at that time.
  • Regular Commissioners Meeting

At the start of the regularly scheduled meeting Commissioner Whitfield announces an item of old business which is the rezone request. He stated the dates of the first public hearing(2-20-27) and the date of the second public hearing(2-27-20) even though the second public hearing did not occur as require by state and local law. He then signed the rezone request. The only time during his tenure as sole commissioner he went against the recommendation of the planning commission.
  • Advertisement of Public Hearings

An ad displaying the dates, times, and locations of the legally required two public hearings appears in the Walker County Messenger.
