Tea Act
Parliament passed the Tea Act, requiring all colonists to purchase a stamped paper with every legal document -
Stamp Act Protest-Sons of Liberty
The colonists, furious with the Stamp Act united in defiance. The Sons of Liberty were founded as a secret resistance group. During this time the colonists resisted the Stamp Act. -
Declaration of Rights and Grievances
Delagates from the colonies met in New York and Congress issued a Declaration of Rights and Grievances. This stated that Parliament lacked the power to impose tax on colonists because Parliament didn't represent them. -
Declaratory Acts
Parliament repealed the Stamp Act, however that same day they released the Declaratory Acts to "blind the colonies and people of America" -
Townshend Acts
Parliament issued the Townshend Acts which was an indirect tax unlike the Tea Acts which were direct. This placed tax on materials such as glass, lead, paint and a 3 penny tax on tea which was the most popular drink. -
The Liberty Ship
This event escalated the already tense situation in the colonies. British agents seized the Liberty ship outside of Boston. 2,000 redcoats were also stationed in Boston. -
Colonists Attack British Ship
Rhode island colonists attacked a British ship meant for preventing smugglers where' the king in response attempted to bring all those involved into a British court. -
Colonial resistance
The Stamp Act became effective however the colonists prevented any stamp from being sold.
