  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was an act by the British forbidding the colonists from moving westward, in an attempt to not only save on money, but keep from angering the French, Indians, and Spanish. The colonists, however, did not obey the British's wishes, and expanded westward anyway.
  • The Currency Act

    The Currency Act
    The Currency Act was an act by Britain making it so the colonists could not create their own money, and had to use British currency instead. This act, however, increased tensions between the colonists and the British.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was a tax on paper that was signified by clay "stamps" or receipts. The colonists did not like this act one bit, and started to tar, feather, and generally antagonize the tax collectors due to this act.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act was a bill passed by Britain to make it so the colonists had to care for British soldiers. The British deliberately placed them in homes they suspected of plotting rebellion, so that the colonists in those homes wouldn't plot against Britain. However, Britain did not pay for the colonists who cared for the soldiers, which angered the colonists.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were taxes on various items, such as glass, tea, paper, etc. However, the taxes were indirect, meaning the colonists had no idea they were being taxed, and only payed more. This angered the colonists, and increased tensions.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was an incident involving the death of five people in the middle of Boston. While patrolling, supposedly, a British officer heard the word 'fire', and started shooting into a crowd, which caused the other soldiers in his troop to start firing as well.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was an act of rebellion against the British, in which some colonists dressed up as Mohawk Indians and invaded a British ship on the Boston harbor, and then dumped many crates of tea into the harbor.
  • Sugar and Molasses Act

    Sugar and Molasses Act
    The Sugar and Molasses Act of 1773 was an event taxing imported sugars, molasses, and rum that wasn't from Britain. The colonists didn't take this tax very lightly, and resented it greatly. It was the first of many instances of Taxation without Representation, and it angered the colonists.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were set in place by the British as a way to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. This angered many of the colonists and, many believe, was one of the major inciting acts for the Rebellion.
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress was a meeting of twelve colonists, representative of each colony (spare for one). They met to talk about the British, and conspired against them because they wanted independence.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The Battles of Lexington and Concord were battles that pitted the colonists against the British on the battlefield. This battle was the first in many battles that made up the battles of the Revolutionary War. This battle was also the first instance of Guerrilla Warfare tactics being used.
