Battle of Bunker Hill
This battle was a win by the British but, caused a huge boost in confidence for the Americans. This is because the colonial force caused a huge number of casualties against the British. This battle was fought outside of Boston. -
Lexington and Concord
British General Gage decided to target Concord and Lexington because it was said to be where John Hancock and Samuel Adams were at. Also it was an area that held well needed maps and ammunitions. Thanks to Paul Revere's network of horseback riders Hancock and Adams escaped. The battle at Lexington lasted 15 minutes but, only a total of 9 men died so there wasn't a clear winner. The battle of Concord had a clear win with the Colonies because the British lost a greater portion of men. -
Battle of New York
General William Howe and Admiral Richard Howe lead British forces on Staten Island and sailed into New York harbor. It was the biggest British force gathered. George Washington rallied men to defend in New York but the men were severely untrained which lead to a heavy loss and a big retreat. -
Battle of Trenton
George Washington and his men crossed the Delaware River and ended up surrounding the British's Hessian. It was an easy win because the Hessians were drunk from Christmas celebrations. -
Fight For Philadelphia
General Howe of the British Army began to try to seize Philadelphia. The Continental Congress fled the city while George Washington unsuccessfully tried to block the British. -
Battle At Saratoga
General Horatio Gates for the Colonists lead several guerrilla forces against the British supply lines. The colonists ended winning this battle which this allowed the Colonists to turn the tide of the war in their favor. -
Winter At Valley Forge
The Continental Army lead by George Washington had to stay at Valley Forge in Pennsylvania. There the soldiers suffered from frostbite and had unsuccessful ammputations from people like Albigense Waldo. Those who survived remained to their posts. -
British Take the South
General Henry Clinton who replaced Howe easily took Savannah, Georgia. They captured Charles Town, South Carolina. There they continued to establish forts across the state but, couldn't advance through North Carolina due to the Patriot's attacks. -
British Surrender at Yorktown
Thanks to the French Navy defeating the British's Navy and blocking off any remote British rescue, caused Cornwallis and his troops to be stationed at Yorktown. As a result, French and American forces bombed the city day and night. Then finally, Cornwallis raised his white flag and handed over his sword to George Washington signifying the Americans have won. -
British lose in 1791
Washington had ordered Nathanael Greene to harass Cornwallis as he retreated. Greene divided into two groups with one led by General Daniel Morgan. Cornwallis in turn sent Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarletan. Instead of retreating Morgan had his men fight Tarletan and forced those Redcoats to surrender. Cornwallis later attacked Greene and won but at the cost of a chunk of his army.
