  • The Battle of Lexington

    The Battle of Lexington
    On April 18, 1775, 70 minutemen went against the British in a fierce battle. After the command from Thomas Gage to seize any illegal weapons; the british rode out to Lexington where they met the 70 minutemen who were ready to fight. The commander of the british troops commanded the minutemen to lay down their weapons.But they refused. Than the shots rang . This fight lasted 15 minutes and 8 minutemen were killed. As well 10 or more injured during the battle.
  • The Battle of Concord

    The Battle of Concord
    After the battle of Lexington the British marched forward on to Concord. They found an empty arsenal. After they found the arsenal empty they decided to go back to boston. More minutemen came back for revenge on the british troops. More than 3,000 minutemen have come together. Shots fired again and many british troops fell to their knees.
  • Bunker Hill

    Bunker Hill
    On June 17, 1775, General Thomas Gage decided to go against the militia in Breed's Hill. Gage sent 2400 soldiers to the hill. The soldiers fired against the redcoats at the last minute. They then retreated, killing over 400 colonists. The british had 1,000 casualties which led this battle to be the deadliest battle of the war.

    To stop the rebellion the British decided to isolate New England. They decided they wanted to take New York and decided to sail into New York Harbor in 1776. They brought with them 32,000 soldier which included mercenaries, hired soldiers, and hessians.
  • Trenton

    After having poorly trained and not a lot of weapons. The troops retreated into Pennsylvania. So they had to put the march on hold. On Christmas night Washington led 2,400 troops across the delaware river. Where they found their objective Trenton. And defeated a garrison of hessians in a surprise attack.
  • Valley Forge

    The French signed an alliance with the Americans. And joined in on the fight. The soldiers failed to stay alive without food and supplies. This took place in the winter causing the deaths of more than 2,000 soldiers.
  • Saratoga

    -General John Burgoyne wanted to lead an army down a route from Canada and Albany. Where he would meet the British troops coming from New York City. The two would then join to isolate New England from the Colonies. That's what he thought. He was fighting off colonists. But the back up where in philadelphia having their own problems. He was then captured in Saratoga on October 17 1777

  • Marquis De Lafayette

    In February 1778, during the freezing winter in Valley Forge, American troops had to be transformed. Military leader Marquis De Lafayette helped trained the continental army. Helping the army led to the continental army being an effective fighting force.
  • Yorkstown

    The British army moves from the northeast to the south after the defeat in Saratoga. The armies of Lafayette and Washington moved to Yorktown. The French defeated a british fleet and blocked the Chesapeake bay from the British. Soon 17,000 French and American troops surrounded the British. Soon Cornwallis a british general surrendered and the Americans won.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    After the Americans won the war, negotiations began to talk about keeping the peace. Members were John Adams, John Jay, and Benjamin Franklin who in September of 1783 signed the Treaty of Paris. This treaty confirmed that the United States was an independent country.
