    First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress formed a resistance against the British. The goal of the First Continental congress was to unite the colonies and Great Britain. Unfortunately they didn't accomplish their goal, but they learned what mistakes not to make next time.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    When British heard of a storage for Minutemen weapons in Lexington, Massachusetts. They sent hundreds of soldiers over to seize all the weapons, but two colonists, Paul Revere and William Dawes made their famous run to warn the Minutemen. When the British arrived, 77 Minutemen were waiting for them, one single shot known as the Shot Heard Around the World was fired, this started the battles. 90 Americans were killed or wounded and the British won the battle mainly because they had more men.
  • Capture of Fort Ticonderoga

    The capturing of Fort Ticonderoga was very significant in the war because it was the Americans first win and it gave them a lot of artillery they would need for future battles. The attack on Fort Ticonderoga was a surprise attack by a militia by the name of the Green Mountain Boys, under the leadership of Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold. The reason the Americans won this battle was because it completely caught the British off guard. There was nobody killed but all 78 British were captured.

    Second Continental Congress

    The delegates of the Continental Congress agreed that a continental army had to be formed. They chose George Washington to be the leader. The congress authorized the printing of money. The congress than approved the Olive Branch Petition to be sent to the king. But in the summer of 1776, the Americans declared independence from the British.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Americans had heard that the British were going to send troops over to Boston to occupy the hills around the city. So the Americans sat atop Breed's Hill. The Redcoats were forced to retreat when they attacked.. Then the British attacked a second time and again they were forced to retreat. But the third time they attacked the Americans were running low on ammo and were forced to fight with their hands. The British ended up winning the battle. Over 300 people died in the battle.
  • Battle of Quebec

    The Patriots attacked early in the morning with Richard Montgomery leading the way, but the British were ready. So when the Americans attacked they were forced to retreat and General Montgomery was killed. Then when Benedict Arnold led his division in they suffered a similar defeat. Unfortunately for the Americans, the British won this battle. Out of the 1,200 Americans who participated, 400 were wounded, killed, or captured.
  • Battle of Long Island (aka the Battle of Brooklyn)

    The Battle of Long Island ended as a result of a British victory. When the British left Boston George Washington Marches his troops in and waited for the British to come back. He had General Stirling sitting with them waiting. When the British came back General Stirling was able to hold them off for several hours, but when he realized he was surrounded he helped 400 Maryland soldiers escape but he was captured. There was about 364 people killed in the Battle of Long Island.
