George Washington was a patriot general who became the First President of the United States of America.
He won the American Revolutary War by defeating the British at Yorktown. -
Paul Revere
Paul Revere warned Samuel Adams and John Hancock 'the british were coming' for them during his famous Midnight Ride before the Battle of Lexington and Concord. He was a silversmith by trade and an inventor. -
John Adams
John Adams was a Patriot and attorney. He worked for colonial independence, but defended the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre when no one else would take their case. -
Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine wrote the pamphlet "Common Sense" during the American Revolutionary War. -
Benedict Arnold
Benedict Arnold lead patriot forces against the British many times.
He won a decisive victory over the British at the Battle of Saratoga, out smarting the enemy and turning the tide of war in the colonist favor.
He later defected to the British side. -
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. It was signed by delegates attending the First Continentel Congress, on July 4th, aka Independence Day. -
Abigail Adams
Abigail Adams was John Adams' wife. She wrote him many letters while he was in Philidelphia during the 1st Continental Congress.
She was for colonial independence. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of paris ended the French Indian War fought by England, France, Spain and Portugal.
As a result, Britian becomes the dominate colonial power of the new world. King George ruled the 13 colonies. -

Patriots vs Loyalists
Colonists loyal to King George III were called Loyalist.
Colonists opposed to British crown were called Patriots. -
Proclamation of 1763
King George tried to halt the exspansion of the colonies past the Appalachian Mountains after the French and Indian War.
Colonist had hoped to expand there now that the French were defeated. King George claimed to be concerned for the Indians. Colonist loyal to King George III were called Loyalist. Colonists opposed to British crown were called Patriots. -
The Stamp Act.
The British parliament imposed a new fee, or duty, on all licenses and documents issued in the colonies. -
Quartering Act
Colonists, mostly merchants, were required to billet the British army, providing them food, supplies, and shelter, often in their homes. This invation of thier personal property and privacy outraged the patriots. Benjamin Franklin's "Join or Die' cartoon urged the colonies to unite and fight againt the British together. -
Townshed Acts
The British needed money. They passed the Townshed Acts to punish the province of New York for refusing to billet British troops, and to enforce trade regulations already imposed upon the colonies by parliament. -
Boston Massacre
British troops opened fire on a crowd of angry colonists. Five of the colonists were killed. The British soliers were captured and put on trial for murder. -
Boston Tea Party
The Sons of Liberty, a group of Patriots dressed like Indians threw an entire shipment of English tea in to the Boston Harbor. They were protesting the Tea Act which forced them to buy tea from the East India Company even though there was plenty of tea grown in the colonies at cheaper prices. -
The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Act is the patriot name for several laws passed by the British to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. They even tried to increasae the size of Quebec to cut Massachusetts off from it's neighbors. -
1st Continental Congress
Delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies (Georgia did not attend) banded together to protest the Intolerable Acts and fight back against British rule. -
Lexington and Concord
The first battle of the American Revolutionary War. The British wanted to capture patriot leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock, but they were warned ahead of time and alluded capture. -
'Common Sense'
Common Sense was a pamphet written by Thomas Paine that encouraged patriots to rebell againts British rule. He felt the colonies should seek independent from England. -
Declaration of Independence
The 13 Colonies formally declared themselves a free and independant nation, separate from England. -
Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga was the turning point in the American Revolutinary War.
British forces were defeated by the colonist and General John Burgoyne was forced to surrended.
As a result, France became our ally against England. -
Battle of Yorktown
The Battle of Yorktown was the last battle of the American Revolutionary War. Many of the fighters on the British side were paid mercenaries called Hessians. The Hessians were paid 25 cents to fight for England against the colonists. -
Treaty of Paris
The treaty ended the American Revolutionary war with Great Britan. The 13 Colonies of America were recognised as an independant nation.
