Battle of Vincennes
In yet another patriot win, the British surrendered about 40 troops, all that were in Fort Sackville. The British surrendered after 5 brutal executions of British allied Native Americans in the sights of the fort. -
Bonhomme Richard vs. Serapis
In a naval battle, the U.S.S Bonhomme Richard faced off against two British warships, the Serapis and the Countess of Scarborough. The Bonhomme Richard, commandeered by John Paul Jones, was asked by the British if he would surrender, which he replied, "I have not yet begun to fight." After fighting for a few more hours, It was the British who surrendered. Afterwards, the patriots took over the Serapis. The Bonhomme Richard sank the next day. -
Battle of Charleston
In a British win, the patriots lost roughly 4,650 troops in a surrender to British commander Sir Henry Clinton. This was the biggest loss for the patriots in the war. -
Battle of Guilford Courthouse
While a British win, the patriot troops did heavy damage to British numbers. More than twenty-five percent of General Cornwallis's 1,900 men were killed, wounded, or captured during the battle against General Nathanael Greene. -
Battle of Yorktown
In a huge patriot win, the British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered about 9,000 troops to the patriots. 2 days later, the British opened negotiations for peace.
