The Stamp Act
Great Britain was in massive dept, so Parliament passed The Stamp Act in 1765 requiring all paper to come directly from England with the official seal of the British government. Colonists were not happy and the Stamp Act was repealed in 1775 with the help of Benjamin Franklin. -
Townshend Acts
Named for Charles Townshend. this law put taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. It was eventually repealed with all other taxes except on tea. -
The Boston Massacre
Took place on March 5, 1770. Colonists were angry at the British because of all the taxes they were required to pay. A fight broke out between British soldiers and some colonists. The soldiers fired back at the colonists killing 5 of them and wounding 7. -
The Boston Tea Party
Colonists were furious because the tea act was requiring them to drink British tea. The colonists refused the British ships to enter and dock at the Boston Harbor. On the night of December 16, 1773, a group of colonists, dressed as Native Americans, went aboard and dumped more than 300 crates of tea into the Boston harbor. -
