  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act was imposed on the USA to provide an increased amount of revenue to meet the costs of defending the enlarged British Empire.
  • Townshend Acts

    The Townshend acts were a series of four acts, They were passed by the British Parliament. The acts were an attempt to exert authority over the colonies through suspension of a recalcitrant representative assembly and through strict provisions for the collection of revenue duties. These acts were protested very violently.
  • British Massacre

    In Boston, a very small British army detachment was being threatened by a mob. In fear of being harrased the detachment opened fire and killed five people in the process. The soldiers that fired into the crowd were charged with Murder and forced to undergo a civilian trial. In the trial the ywere successfully defended by John Adams.
  • Boston Tea Party

    In an act of protest against a tax on tea. A party of Bostonians in disguise boarded ships and dumped 10000 euros worth of tea into the ocean.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    In an act of retaliation towards the Colonial resistance to British rule during the winter of 1773-74. The British parliament decided to put in four measures. These measures became known as the Intolerable Acts. These acts were called The Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration Of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act.
  • First Continental Congress Convenes

    The congress was called by the Committees of Correspondence in an act of protest to the Intolerable Act. The Congress happened in Philadelphia. Fifty six delegates represented all the colonies except Georgia.
  • Paul Revere’s Ride and the Battles of Lexington and Concord Part 1

    On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere rode from Charlestown to Lexington (both in Massachusetts) to warn that the British were marching from Boston to seize the colonial armory at Concord. There was a British force of around 700 men. They were met on Lexington green by around 77 local minutemen.

    No one knows which side fired the opening shot. There was a battle between them that left 8 Americans dead. Later at Concord, the British were met by a force of a few hundred militiamen. The British quickly became outnumbered and as they ran low on ammunition they decided to retreat to Boston. The fight left 273 British people dead and more than 90 Americans dead

    After an event where the Congress recommended to the Colonies that they form their own governments. The declaration of independence was written, By Thomas Jefferson
  • Washington crosses the Delaware

    After being forced to leave New York and being driven across New Jersey by the British Army, George Washington and his army struck back at the British by during the night of Chrismas crossing the Deleware River in order to surprise the British Army. They surprised them at Trenton at dawn and took over 900 prisoners. This battle was a massive victory for the USA and kept the struggle alive.
  • Siege of Yorktown

    After Washington's army and a french force set Yorktown under siege. Cornwallis surrendered his army of more than 7000 men on October 19.
  • Treaty of Paris ends the war

    By its terms, Britain recognized the independence of the United States with generous boundaries, including the Mississippi River on the west. Britain retained Canada but ceded East and West Florida to Spain.
