Battle of Lexington & Concord
This was the first battle of the Revolution. The Redcoats were marching down Boston to continue governing the Americans. The Americans were prepared for a sudden battle with their minutemen. Eventually, the Redcoats and minutemen met up, a shot was blown, and the battle begun. This battle set the ground for the new destructive relationship that the Americans and the British would have for the next 8 years. -
Battle of Fort Ticonderoga (Capturing)
This was the first offensive victory for the Americans in the series of the Revolutionary War. This was because it sufficiently aided in artillery for the Americans, which they never really had gotten unless from the British. America retrieved the Fort by the help of Sir Benedict Arnold, Ethan Allen, and the Green Mountain Boys who worked together to capture it. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
This is the first time where the American [New England] soldiers and the British soldiers properly went head to head in proper combat with each other. The British had headed down to Boston to, by command of their General - Thomas Gage , to finally bring a halt to the uprising of the colonists. The Americans were ready to fight and therefore did. This battle resulted in a British victory, leaving them with possession over the hills in Charlestown. -
"Common Sense"
This was a pamphlet made by Thomas Paine that influenced the coming of the America we have today. In his pamphlet, he discussed certain topics pertaining the British, and persuaded people to change their minds on how America's relationship with England should be. This publication opened the eyes of many colonists and fully inspired their ideas of a rebellion, and a search for independence. -
Siege of Boston
During this event, the Americans went up to Boston in attempt to re-capture it. The American, patriotic, army besieged the British army, and engaged in a war-like battle. George Washington, the American general at the time, had the artillery stye needed in order to get the British out of Boston. The artillery was soon to also reach the city. Hearing this news led to William Howe, the British general at the time, evacuating the city with his men. This was an American victory. -
The Declaration of Independence
This highly important document is what founded the nation of the United States of America. This document written by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston, brought together all the colonies to unite against their abuser - the British. This document signed by representatives from all of the 13 colonies, freed America from being owned by England. It stated all the wrong doings enabled by the British, and how they should be free, and treated equal. -
Battle of Long Island
This was the first major battle ever since America had declared independence. In this battle, the British Continental Army aimed to seize control over New York, and therefore isolate New England from the rest of the colonies. [George] Washington ended up being defeated by the Redcoats. However, this effect did not lead Washington to surrender due to his ingenuity. -
Washington Crosses the Delaware
During the series of the American Revolution, George Washington, and a plentiful amount of troops decide to cross the Delaware river. They did this in order to find contact with the Hessians in Trenton, New Jersey and engage in a battle. Once they met them, they quickly overwhelmed those German defenses, and the town eventually was surrendered. However, because a lot of Washington's men were unable to make it across the river, he was forced to withdraw from the town until further notice. -
Battle of Trenton
This battle was left in an American victory. After crossing the Delaware, Washington and his men defeated the Hessians at Trenton. This battle helped to boost the support of more colonists who want to become free. -
Battle of Princeton
This battle also was rewarded in an American victory and strongly helped the colonists revive themselves from a series of losses in fights earlier. -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle was a turning point for the Americans because they actually successfully defeated the superior British army instead of having a miniature battle. This American victory resulted in British General, John Burgoyne's, loss of controlling the Hudson River Valley. This showed the French that America COULD hold its grounds against the British, allowing an alliance to form between France and America. Benedict Arnold was held as a war hero for his work on the field, up until he was a traitor. -
Winter at Valley Forge
Valley Forge is where Washington and his men stayed during the winters of the war. Here was when all of them became one united fighting force under Washington's command. -
Treaty of Amity & Commerce / Treaty of Alliance
This treaty between the Americans and French promoted the idea of France viewing America as an independent nation, and agreeing to trade with each other. -
Battle of Charlestown
This was a major British Victory during the Revolution. While both forces [Continental Army, British Redcoats] were headed to/in the same area [Charlestown], the British troops ended up trapping the American colonists due to them being outnumbered. -
Battle of Springfield
This battle resulted in a colonist victory. From the last battle 'till now, the British were able to advance. However, they were forced to withdraw from battle when seeing the new rebels that had joined the Continental Army. This battle officially ended all battles that were to be fought in New Jersey - meaning nobody [neither the Continental Army nor British Redcoats] would wage in battle in New Jersey any longer. -
Battle of Camden
This battle was by far the worst one that the Americans had engaged in so far with the British during the Revolution. The defeat led to the British being in immense temporary control over the southern colonies. -
Battle of Cowpens
This battle was an American victory. It demonstrated the Americans' skilled leadership and military work. It weakened the British's ability to remain in control of the southern colonies. -
Battle of King's Mountain
This was one of the few. battles conducted by the countrymen [militiamen] and not the whole Continental Army. Although they weren't as skilled, they still set out an American victory in the end. -
Battle of Yorktown
This battle basically concludes the end of the battles in the Revolutionary war. Here, the British surrender, and for the most part grant the end of British rule in the colonies. This gives birth to a whole new nation, declared as, The United States of America. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty between America and Great Britain formally declared an end to the Revolution, and properly declared the United States of America to be birthed and known as an independent nation.
