John Locke
He was an English philosopher who greatly impacted the American Government. The social contract theory states that life, liberty, and property are giving to us and should not be taken away. Natural Rights are life, liberty, and property. He founded many of the ideas that the colonists used to make their government. -

This was a conversation between the delegates of the 13 colonies. This was significant because it was America's first attempt at self-governance and it united the colonies togrther. -
Bunker Hill
A fight in which the British won. This gave the rebels a sense of hope because it took the British three times to gain control of the hill and they were only able to accomplish this after the Americans ran out of ammo. -
Olive Branch Petition
This was the last resort before going to war. This document was sent to the king and stated the colonists' loyalty and rights in order to try and prevent a war. -
Declaration of Independence
It stated the goals of the colony and was important because it declared the colony's separation from Britain. -
Trenton
This battle was important because it was the first battle that Gorge Washington won against the British with his troops. -
Princeton
The British lost control of New Jersey and forced them to retreat. This gave the Americans hope of winning the war. -
Saratoga
This battle persuaded the French to join the war with America and to fight against the British. -
Valley Forge
This was a camp that Gorge Washington choose for the troops. This made them believe he was an incompetent leader and they wanted to replace him. -
France
France was an ally with the Americans. The Treaty of Amity & Commerce created trade between the U.S. and France. The Treaty of Alliance was created for military assistance in fighting Britan. -
Spain
Spain entered the war and was allied with the French. They supplied the colonists with supplies, ammo, and financed wars. -
Cowpens
This war was inflicted casualties that forced the British to retreat and ultimately led to Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown. This was a major morale boost for the southern colonies as they had not won many wars. -
Yorktown
This was the finale battle of the Revolutionary War because during this battle the British surrendered to the French and American forces. -
Treaty of Paris
This was created to establish peace between the British and the U.S.This was the document that officially stated the end of the Revolutionary War.
