    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    These were the first two battles in the American Revolutionary war. The first shot was called "The shot heard round the world." according to Ralph Waldo Emmerson. After Paul Revere spread the warning of the impending invasion, the colonists were ready for the British. The Redcoats beat a hasty retreat since they met such a strong resisitance.

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    It took place in Charleston, Massachusetts. The British were the ones to triumph over the Patriots. Icronically, while the battle was called Bunker Hill, most of the fighting took place on nearby Breed's Hill. The significance of the battle was that Charleston and Breed's Hill fell under strong British control. It was there the term "Don't shoot til' you see the whites of their eyes." was coined by a Patriot soldier. It meant that they needed to shoot when they were close.

    Fortification of Dorchester Heights
    The Fortification of Dorchester Heights took place in Boston and the surrounding areas. It was when the Patriots fortified the area with cannons and other heavy weaponry. It not only drove the remaining British soldiers from the city, it also protected Boston and Boston Harbor from getting captured.
    The Patriots won this battle, and it was teh first battke won by Washington in the war. The Patriots never fired a shot but still won.They used a surprise attack.

    This was the very real declaration to the British that they wanted Freedom and Liberty and they would fight for it. The British ignored this Declaration, and the war escalated.
  • Battle of Brooklyn

    The British won this battle. The significnt was that with the British controling Long Island, they had control of the largest colony. The Patriots suffered a devastating blow because they couldn't get supplies.
  • Battle of Brandywine

    The winner was the British. It allowed the British to take control of Philedelphia. It was a very demoralizing blow to the Patriots because that marked the second massive city that was captured.
  • Battles of Trenton and Princeton

    The Patriots won these two battles. They were important because they were the first 'real' battles for the Patriots. It also helped them because they gained land. It helped give a positive feeling to the Patriots and gave them lots of confidence.

    This was an important winter because this was where the Patriot Army was trained. The winter was hard, and a lot of soldiers fell to disease and sickness. Overall, it was a good thing for the Patriot army because they became a real army.

    A major battle that the French assistance caused a win for the colonies. It was a sea war, and the colonists had no ships or sailors to fight it, but the French did. It was one of the last major battles.

    The official end of the war, where the British and Americans signed a peace treaty, causing the end of the war. America became a free nation, leaving the British rule. They elected their first President, George Washington, and became a democracy.
