Treaty of Paris ( ending French & Indian War)
This treaty ended the French and Indian war, also know as the Seven Years War. It also marked the beginning of an era of British rule outside Europe. -
Sugar Act
The British a put on tax on sugar, wine, molasses, and other important good to make more money. The colonists started to boycott the act, which made them more united by opposing the act. -
Stamp Act
Required colonists to pay for a stamp on any paper products. It was the first attempts by Parliment to tax colonists directly. In 1766 Parliament repleaded the act. -
Townshed Acts
Put taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. The 4th amendment would be added to the Bill of Rights because of this act. -
Boston Massacre
Tension between Britian and the colonies caused townspeople to mistreat soldiers and guards. The guards fired at the people killing three instantly, and two others dieing later on due to wounds. -
Tea Act
Made it so colonists could only purchase tea from the East India Company. This actually made the tea cheaper, however colonists viewed this as "taxation without representation" which resulted in the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
Officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain. The colonists, disguised as indians, sneaked onto three tea-filled ships, and dumped 340 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
Series of acts passed in reaction to the Boston Tea Party. Acts included, the closing of Boston Harbor, revoking Massachusetts colonial charter, trials of royal officals accused of crimes will now be held in Great Britian, Quatering Act, and the province of Quebec is enlarged. -
First Continental Congress
Representatives from each colony, except Georgia, meet in Phildelphia to discuss the Intolerable Acts, and their relationship with Britian. They accomplished three things, boycott of British goods, wrote the Declaration of Independence, and agreed to meet again in May 1775 for the Second Continental Congress. -
Declaration of Rights
Issued by the First Continental Congress to list the rights that were currently being denied to them. It declared the rights that they should be entitled to. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
Patriot Captain John Parker lead British troops to Lexington near concord, to capture supplies and weapons. Captured few supplies, and burned some buildings because most weapons were hidden. The British were eventually forced to retreat back to Boston, while suffering death throughout the way, -

Delegates from the thirteen colonies meet in Phildelphia. The Second Continental Congress managed colonial war effort, created a Continental Arm, and sent to Olive Branch Petetion to Great Brititan -
Battle of Bunker Hill
In need of supplies Benedict Arnold sent over 400 troops to Fort Ticonderago to capture the fort. They accomplished capturing the fort, and also concealed weapons from the British. Meanwhile colonial forces managed to climb up Breed's Hill, British had to get up the hill but were forced to retreat twice. The third try however the British made it up the hill, but suffered many deaths throughout the way. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Although it is considered the Battle of Bunker Hill,it ocurred mostly on and around Breeds Hill in Boston. This was one of the first battles of the Revolution. While the result was a victory for the British, they suffered heavy losses. There was over 800 wounded and 226 killed. -
Olive Branch Petition
In an effort to advoid war, the Second Continental Congress passes to Olive Branch Petition. It stated the wrongs that had been perpetrated against the colonies. However King George III refused to even look at the petition -
Declaration of Independence
The leaders of the Revolutionary war got together to write a letter to the Kind of England to explain why they were fighting to be their own country. They beiliced that all men are created equal, all men have rights give to thekm by God, and that among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. -
Battle of Trenton
On Christmas night, 1776, Washington took 2,400 soldiers across the Delaware River. As the morning came the ragged army, short on supplies and many without shoes, marched toward the enemy camp where the drunken Hessians were fast asleep. The Americans suprised them greatly and they took 900 British soldiers prisoners. -
Battle of Saratoga
Turning point of the war because it convinced France to enter the war on the American's side. British had to surrended their entire army to General Horatio Gates because they became surrounded. It was a huge win for the Americans. -
Valley Forge
Washington settled 12,000 men in Valley Forge, which was about 20 miles north of Philadelphia. But, while they were there, they suffered shortages of food and clothing throughout the harsh winter. During that time about 2,000 soldiers died of dieseases or malnutrition. Amazingly, the rest of the soldiers stayed and continued through brutal drilling from Baron von Steuben. -
