Treaty of Paris
The treaty of Paris was a peace treaty that drove out the French, leaving them a small portion of what they used to have. This was a huge accomplishment after the Seven Year's War. -
The Procalmation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was an act or law that said that the colonists were restricted from entering the land that they conquered and to hand it over to the Natives who were here first. This led to loads of more conflict. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act said that because of the wars, the colonists had to be taxed unbelievably high and risky that the colonists were extremely unhappy. This act was a spark to the ever growing wildfire. -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act announced that the soldiers that were defending the colonies were allowed to enter the colonist's homes and be fed by the household. -
Sons of Liberty
They were an organized group of true patriots who undermined the British rule and led the boston tea party. These patriots were important to our revolution because they truly believed in what we believe now. -
Townshend acts
These acts helped lure the rage of the Tea Acts that taxed the Colonies ridiculously. This was important to the American Revolution because it fueled the fire that was dimming down. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a group of laws that the colonists were forced to follow and included many laws that taxed the colonists dry. This led to rage and hurt and finally to a revolution. These acts gave the colonists a true cause to rebel. -
Boston Massacre
This event was caused by a fight between the British soldiers and some of the colonists were killed in this process. This led to many accusations and indignation that intensified the strained relationship between these people. -
Abigail Adams
She wrote letters filled with thoughtful discussions and first-hand experiences from her husband. Abigail Adams helped us discover what it was like in the front lines. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was an act of defiance against the British and is one of the most famous events in the American Revolution. -
1st Continental Congress
This group of people were elected by the colonies to resolve their problems and to create a government based on the People. This was important because now the colonies don't need the British government controlling them. -
Paul Revere
He was a true patriot who warned the colonists that the British were marching to the towns to suppress their revolt and Paul Revere stopped that from happening by riding at midnight from town to town. -
Lexington and Concord
This battle was the first, official battle of the American Revolution. Lexington and Concord was very important to the American Revolution because it was where the first huge mass of blood was shed. -
John Adams
John Adams was a very academically smart person, and he became president later on. He was important to this war because he suggested that they declare independence from Britain. -
George Washington
He was the first president of the United States and he bravely fought alongside the men that were all patriots that want to protect their country. -
Loyalists
These people were supporting Britain, against the Patriots, and tried to stop these people from destroying the relationship between the two, far away countries. -
Benedict Arnold
Benedict Arnold was a man with big dreams to invade Canada, though his plans failed. Canada was still under British rule, so it was kinda smart to attempt an invasion against the Candians. He also was defeated by the British a couple of times, but he definitly delayed their troops. -
Sam Adams
He was a Founding Father of this country and helped lead this entire revolution, and that pretty much says it all on how he impacted history by being a leader. -
Decleration of Independence
The decleration of independence was huge to the revolutionary war because now this document is officially declaring independence from Britain. -
Patriots
On this date, Patriots [who are the people who stand up for the revolution], defeated the British, along with so many other dates that they have both succeeded and failed. They were SO important to this revolution, fighting the redcoats, and protecting their rights. -
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, to say that the colonies didn't want to be ruled under the British government anymore. He impacted history by sending this amazing letter to the enemy and saying that we won't take this anymore! -
Hessians
The Hessians were considered mercaneries under the British king's rule, and were of course on the British side. They showed that Britain was desperate to reclaim their territory they fought for, and used other resources to aqquire that wanting. -
Lord Cornwallis
Lord Cornwallis captured Fort Lee to try and settle the fighting down, in the name of his country, Britain. Yes, he was a British leader, but in both fighting countries, he's known as one of the best. -
"Common Sense"
This book gave the first declare that independence from Britain should be giong under way. The book is important to the revolution because it got the public informed and for people to understand what's going on. -
Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine wrote the novel "Common Sense" to alert the public about the unfairness of the British government, taxing the colonists ridiculously for the Seven Year's War. He did this to make sure the public knows, and put it into simple terms to help protect his country. -
Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga is indicated as the turning point of this dreaded war, and it's important because it helped our victory. -
Martha Custis Washington
She followed her husband to help lighten the soldiers' minds, and that helped the esteem of the country I bet a lot! She's also the First Lady of the United States, and she was very wealthy at the time, too. -
Battle of Yorktown
This was the last major battle that occured and it led to the British leaving the colonies alone. This concluded the American Revolution. -
Treaty of Paris-1783
This treaty signaled the ending of this revolution, and now the United States of America has been created.
