Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris-1763 was an agreement by the kingdoms of Great Britain, France and Spain, with Portugal. It was signed in agreement, after Britain's victory over France and Spain during the Seven Years' War. -
Proclamation of 1763
This was important to the overall outcome of the revolution because it organized Great Brittain's new North American empire and stabalized the relationship with Native North Americans. -
John Adams
Although John Adams was not a soldier, he was played a large role in the success of the Colonists in the American Revolution. He was a member of the Continental Congress. He had a role in the in the drafting of the Dec. of Independence. -
Sons of Liberty
The Sons of Liberty were the masterminds behind the Boston Tea Party. They played an important role because the Boston Tea Party was a big step in the Revolution. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was written by the Brittish Parlimentary. This imposes a tax on the Colonists on every printed piece of paper. The paper would be printed in London with a stamp showing the British. The money collected by the Stamp Act was used to pay for the effects caused in the war. This was important because it sparked the colonists want for freedom because of the unfair taxes. -
Quartering Act
This is important because it was taxing the colonists by forcing the colonists to provide housing and accomodations for the British soldiers. This is one of the events that led up to the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre started out as a minor fight, but became one of the turning points in the beginning of the war. It was caused by the growing tension between the British and Colonists for unfair taxes and the colonists wanting to be a free and independent nation. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was when a group of protesting Patriots ddisguised themselves as Indians and went onto the British ships arriving at the port. In protest for the British taxing everything, the Patriots dumped all the British's tea into the harbor. -
Intolerable Act
The Intolerable Act was was the Colonists name for the laws the British passed that related to Massachuttes and the Boston Tea Party. The Acts took away rights from the thirteen colonists. The Colonists got angry and wanted to fight back, which was a start of the war. -
1st Continental Congress
The 1st Continental Congress was a convention where representatives from 12 colonies(Georgia was not there). The delegation met to discuss stuff such as including an economic boycott of British trade, rights and grievances, and petitioned King George III for redress of those grievances. -
Common Sense
Common sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Pain. It inspired the people of the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight against the British for independence. -
Loyalists
Loyalists are people who stayed loyal to the British Empire during the time of the American revolution. They were important because they were opposed by the patriots and gave struggle to America because of their loyalty to the opposing side. -
Patriots
The patriots were important because they rebeled and rioted against the British. They have a famous quote saying "no taxation without representation" which stayed important and as a cause of the war. -
Sam Adams
Sam Adams was important to the revolution because he is sometimes known as the "Father of the American Revoltion" because of his drawings, writings, and speeches showing the colonists fight for independence. -
Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine was the writer of the pamphlet "Common Sense". It inspired the people of the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight against the British for independence. -
George Washington
George Washington was the first President of the United States (1789–1797), the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. In the Revolutionary War, he was one of the generals. What made him so important is that he never surrendered even after after may losses and kept leading his men to success. -
Abigail Adams
Abigail Admas was the wife of John Adams. She played an important part in the American Revolution because during the hard times, especially the beginning, of the war, she produced munitions and gave them to the soldiers. -
Paul Revere
Paul Revere was a very important character in the Revolutionary War. He is most famous for the Midnight Ride right before the battle of Lexington and Concord. In the ride, he rode around warning all of the colonists that the British were coming. Without him, the Colonists would have not been prepared to fight. -
Lexington and Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military battles of the Revolutionary War. These are part of what started the war. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts were a series of acts passed by the Parlaiment of Great Brittain discussing the Brittish colonies in North America. The purpose of the Townshend Acts was to raise enough money in the colonies to afford to pay for the salaries of governers and judges. -
Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was an American Founding Father and the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776). The Declaration of Independence was a very important part in the Revolution because it was the official document saying that the thirteen colonies would be independent from Britain. -
Delaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is a document stating that the thirteen American colonies, who were currently at war with the British, would declare themselves an independent nation. -
Battles of Saratoga
The Battles of Saratoga were the battles that decided the fate of a British General's army. These battles were another turnng point in the Revolutionary War. -
Martha Custis Washington
Martha Custis Washington was the wife of Gearge Washington. While Gearge Washington and his troops were camping at Valley Forge, Martha would go up check up and help them. -
Hessians
According to an old storyGeneral Washington met in the night at the Battle of Trenton on the morning of December 26, 1776 because the Hessians of the town defenders had been up late the night before celebrating Christmas. The story explains that the Patriots made quick work, but the Hessian troops were hardly the hapless drunks of legend. They were generally excellent soldiers.
The term "Hessians" refers to the approximately 30,000 German soldiers who were hired by the British to help fight. -
Benedict Arnold
Benedict Arnold was a general for the American Army, but eventually switched to the British's side as a brigadier general. As an American soldier, he took command of the fort at Westpoint. He had a plan to surrender to the British, but was exposed and joined the British. -
Battle of Yorktown
The Battle of Yorktown was believed to be one of the most important battles in the American revolution because it was the battle in which the British surrendered and the Colonists gained freedom through victory. -
Lord Cornwallis
Lord Cornwallis was a British general. He was a generally good general, but he was not able to defeat the Continental Army. He is most famous for his surrendering of the war at the Battle of Yorktown. He is accused of 'losing America'. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris is important to the overall cause of the war because the treaty ended the American Revolution between Brittain and America.
