Proclamation of 1763
The proclamation closed off the frontier to colonial expansion. This made the colonists angry they were not allowed to move west. -
Boston Massacre
A street riot in Boston turned into a blood bath when crowds of men attacked British soldiers whereas they fired shots into the mob. This fed propaganda for the colonists. -
Boston Tea Party
A political protest where the Sons of Liberty dumped tremendous amounts of tea into the harbor. The British were furious. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
The first battle of the revolutionary war, "The shot heard around the world", this was a mark of the start of the war and outburst of tension between the British and Colonists. -
Fort Ticonderoga
A small victory, but the first for the Continental Army. They captured much needed artillary. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
This Revolutionary War battle lead the American troops to defeat, but the British also suffered great loss of soldiers. This gave the Continental Army confidence in the surprise attack. -
Olive Branch Petition
A letter to England in attempt to save the rights of the colonists while remaining loyal to the British crown. -
Publishing of Common Sense
A 48 page pamphlet of wise words to the colonists was published striking out against the King. -
The Battle of Dorchester
General Geroge Washington and his troops took Boston. Now there were no British troops left in the 13 Colonies. -
Declaration of Independence
A letter sent to Parliment stating the independence of the colonies. The message sent was so important this day is now a national holiday. -
Battle of Princeton
A major battle between the British and Patriots, the Patriots won. -
Battle of Saratoga
This was a series of two battles that took place in the fall outside of Saratoga, NY. At the end, George Washington and his troops captured many British troops. -
Trenton Battle
The Americans showed up on an unexpected visit. THe Hessians surrendered and this boosted the confidence of the Continental Army tremendously. -
Valley Forge
There was no battle at Valley Forge, yet it was the turning point of the war where troops were trained and spirits brightened. -
Yorktown
French Army Troops and the patriots, swept the British Army, making the British realize the Colonist's declaration of Independence. -
Treaty of Paris
Ended the Revolutionary War, granting freedom to the colonies.
