    The siege of Boston was when colonial troops surrounded British occupied Boston to prevent movement of the British troops stationed there. At the end of this time period, the British were removed from Boston for the first time in eight years. The Colonial troops were led by Washington.

    Before Valley Forge, the Colonial army lost most of their battles, winning occasionally, due to the Guerilla warfare they used. During Valley forge, they were trained in war, and this led to a more successful fighting force.

    The Battle of Bunker Hill was a loss for the less experienced colonial troops. The British troops ultimately defeated the colonial troops because of a shortage of ammunition, and that they had no experience.

    When the British fleet attacked New York, the Colonial army was not prepared, being inexperienced and without a fleet, so when a fleet of 400 British warships sailed into New York, the Colonials couldn't stand up to them, and soon had to retreat into the area around the city. This event really exposed how inexperienced the Colonials were in comparison to the British Navy and Army.

    This Battle was one of the first battles the Continental Army actually won, and they gained weapons and equipment, along with a morale boost from this battle.

    Battles of Saratoga

    During The first battles of Saratoga, the British were victorious over the Colonial army, but only because of German Hessian forces that reinforced the British troops. The last battles were won by the colonials, driving the British General John Burgoyne back to England.

    Valley Forge

    The winter at valley forge was a point where the Colonial army was at its worst. The army had no supplies, and men died of disease and cold. Washington struggled to keep the army together. Von Steuben trained his elite group of soldiers, who would go on to train other soldiers, in fighting with Bayonets and other weapons. This was a big turning point in the war. Around 2,000 soldiers died during this winter, but afterwards, the inexperienced army trained in the art of War.

    After Valley forge, the Colonial army had recieved formal training from Von Steuben in bayonets and other fighting techniques, and this led to the drastic improvement of the army's fighting. This was a huge turning point in the war, as the Colonial army started winning a lot more. They combined their Guerilla warfare with Von Steuben's formal techniques.

    After the battle of Saratoga, the French were convinced enough in the colonials to help them. During this battle, Major-General Charles Lee failed to follow orders from Washington, and subsequently was expelled from the Army for a year. The battle was technically a draw, though it made for a long term victory for the Americans.

    The Battle of King's Mountain in NC was a contributing factor in the british retreat to Yorktown, along with the Battle of Cowpens. The Colonial army won, and this made it clear to the British that the colonials in the south would not back the British.

    The Battle of Cowpens was in Cowpens, SC, and during the battle the Colonial army defeated the British, and went hand in hand with the battle of King's Mountain, in running General Cornwallis out of South Carolina, eventually leading to Yorktown.

    Yorktown was the Battle in which The colonial army ran Cornwallis out of America in a surrender of the British Forces in the colonies.

    The treaty that formally ended the war, and declared that the king recognized the United States as a seperate nation from Britain, and looked to ensure peace between them.
