Revolutionary Battles

  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

The first battle of the American Revolution where the Colonial Militia and the British had a little a skirmish at Lexington before the militia was forced to retreat to Concord. While most of the militia was killed or injured, the militia did significant damage to the British forces. John Parker was the Captain of the militia men at Lexington and Concord. The British were forced to retreat and the Americans won their first battle of the Revolution.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

The Battle of Bunker Hill, was one of the first important battles fought in the revolution, mostly fought on nearby Breed's Hill. The British defeated the Colonists with the leadership of Major General, William Howe. The British landed ashore in Charlestown (Boston) with 2000 men. Although the American's lost the battle, like Lexington, about half of the British troops were either killed or wounded. The Americans had about 140 killed and 370 wounded. Cannons were key to the battle.
  • Battle of Quebec

On New Years Eve, the Americans attacked Fort Quebec held by the British hoping to take it for the American cause in Canada. The attack went horribly wrong leading to the capture and killing of a third of the 1200 American troops led by both Montgomery and Benedict Arnold. The attack cost Montgomery his life and Benedict Arnold his leg. Out of the 1200 British troops protecting the fort, less than 60 men were even wounded, let alone killed.
  • Battle of Trenton and Princeton

The Battle of Trenton took place Christmas night when General Washington led 2400 of his men to attack. The hessian forces under Johan Rall were unable to ever fend off Washington's men. 1300 men were captured, wounded, or killed, and only 400 escaped for a strong victory for the Americans. They then crossed back over the Delaware river to then cross again another night to attack Princeton in a similar skirmish against the British troops under General Cornwallis. Another victory for Washington.
