Lexington
Thomas Gage ordered troops to march from Boston to Concord against british troops. They were 700 british headed for Concord to Boston. So, they reached at Lexington where the battle took place. The british command to lay down their arms and leave but, the patriots did the opposite. During this battle eight minutemen were killed, ten were wounded but, only one was injured from the british side. This battle just lasted 15 minutes. -
Concord
The British lined up to march back to Boston. Between 3,000 and 4,000 minutemen had assembled and they were fired on. The remaining British soldiers made their way back to Boston. -
Philadelphia
The colonial leaders called the second Continental Congress in Philadephia to debate their next move on the war. Some delegates called for independence and others to a reconciliation with Great Britain. At the end the congress agreed to recognize the colonial militiamen and chose George Washington as the commander. -
Bunker Hill
British Thomas Gage decide to strike at militiamen on Breed’s hill. He sent 2,400 british soldiers up the hill. The colonist lost 450 men, while the British had suffered 1,000 casualties (victim). This battle proved to be the deadliest battle of the war. -
New York
The British sailed into New York with a force of about 32,00 soldiers. They attempted to seized New York. Although the continental Army tried to defend New York but, the poorly army soon retreated. -
Trenton
Washington risked everything to win. With a fierce storm he held 2,400 men went across the Delaware River. Then, they marched to Trenton, New Jersey. In a surprise attack they defeated garrison of Hessians which led British soon regrouped. -
Saratoga
Burgoyne was fighting off the colonial troops and he didn’t realize that his fellow british were occupied holding Philadelphia. So, the Americans troops surrounded Burgoyne at Saratoga. These victory made France beliefs that the Americans could win the war. -
Valley Forge
Due the victory of Saratoga and the alliance between French and American in February 1778. Washington and his Continental Army desperately low food and supply to stay alive during the winter camp in the Village Forge, Pennsylvania. But, more than 2,000 soldiers died and the survivor did not dessert. -
Marquis De Lafayette
American began an amazing transformation. Marquis De Lafayette a foreign military that offer his help. He lobbied France to France reinforcement in 1779 and he led a command in Virginia the last years. -
Yorktown
The colonist continued to battle Cornwallis in his efforts to take the Carolinas. While the British in general move the fight to Virginia. Cornwallis lead the army of 7,500 onto the peninsula between James and York rivers and camped at the Yorktown. About 17,000 men surrounded the British on the Yorktown and less than a month later, Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown. The americans defeated British. -
Treaty of Paris
The delegates signed the Treaty of Paris. Which were negotiating with John Adams, John Jay, and Benjamin Franklin. This Treaty of Paris confirmed the independence of the nation. Now the United States was from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River and from Canada to the Florida border.
