Proclamation of 1763
The was a proclamation forbidding settlers to move West of the Appalachian and make their homes out there. -
Stamp Act of 1765
A tax on stamps and official papers such as a diploma. The stamp act was made to provide soldiers with any materials and supplies that they may need. basically to supply the army with more manpower. -
Townshend Taxes
Were indirect taxes on goods that come into the port such as paint, lead and tea. Charles Townstead thought the indirect taxes could trick colonists. -
Boston Tea Party
The Sons of liberty threw 15,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor and even burned the ships. -
The Intolerable Acts
Retaliation of the Boston tea party. British were outraged by the Boston Tea Party. Caused an escalated beyond taxation. Trials in Britain, needed permission for meetings in Boston, and Boston Ports were closed. -
The First Continental Congress
56 representatives of all the colonies except Georgia met in Pennsylvania because they didn't like the control British people had. -
The Battle of Lexington and Concord
The British were trying to seize a secret stash of weapons in Concord and the first shot fired was fired by the Patriots. -
Second Continental Congress
Was a convention of delegates from the 13 colonies which created the Continental Army. This also resulted in George Washington being voted as Commanding Leader. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Was the bloodiest of the battles because 1000 Red Coats and 400 colonists were wounded or killed. It also took the British 3 waves to finally take the hill. -
Thomas Paine’s Common Sense
It was the first document that asked for Independence from Britain. It was also written so that the common people could understand. -
Declaation of Independence
Officially declared independence from Britain. It was signed by 56 delegates and Thomas Jefferson wrote it.
Townshend Acts: Date of Boston Massacre. -
Battle of Saratoga
There were actually two battles one on October 7th and the other was September 19th. One was on Freeman’s Farm and the other was at Bemis Heights. It was a turning point in the war and gave French the confidence to join the colonies side. -
Battle of Yorktown
The French wanted revenge against the Red Coats so they came and helped the colonists. They were like an aid and the French Navy blocked British supplies and and reinforcements from coming in. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty says that Britain ceded all land West of the Appalachians to the Mississippi River. British Prime Minister Lord North resigned. Official ending of the war.
