The montgomery bus system was boycotted after Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man and move to the back of the bus. -
Freedom Riders
A group of whites and blacks that rode on buses to challenge the status quo of blacks riding in the back of the bus while whites rode in the back. -
"I Have a Dream"
Martin Luther King gave his famous speech to a group that marched on Washington. This group was around 80% black and the rest white or other minorities all standing together for equal treatment of humans. -
Civil Rights Act
Progress was being made with people who were speaking up for their basic rights. This helped the morale stay up and people to keep fighting. -
National Organization of Women
Women were feeling empowered by working with and empowering other women. Women were going to ban together and fight for their rights. -
Death of Martin Luther King
Being such a strong and leading figure of the civil rights movement, his death impacted a lot of people. Nevertheless the civil rights movement continued.
