Nagy Imre was appointed Prime Minister. ÁVH was abolished. Party was renamed into Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party. -
Consequences
Lots of people were executed, also including Nagy Imre in 1958, imprisoned and emigrated. The UN suspended Hungary and condemned the Soviet intervention. -
Demands
MEFESZ was established. Drafted a list of demands. A peaceful demonstration was planned on 23rd October as a result of the Polish events. -
Demolished the Stalin statue
A group of the demonstrators demolished the Stalin Statue which was the symbol of the communist terror. -

At 3 p.m. demonstrators at Petőfi - staute gathered together and Sinkovits Imre recited the National Song. -

Occupation
Soviet troops occupied Budapest. Also there were fights in other cities as well in the countryside. -
Ceasefire
Hungarians took ceasefire with the Soviets. Meanwhile National Guard was established and the UN started to debate on the Hungarian case. -
Politics
Put an end of the one party system. Former political parties were reestablished. Mindszenty József was released. -
Nagy Imre
Nagy Imre denounced the Warsaw Pact and Hungary became neutral. -
Negotiations
Kádár and Maléter started negotiations with the Soviets. Maléter was arrested and Kádár had a choice. -
2 radio announcements
The Soviet offensive had started, but the government remained in its place and the army was fighting. The Revolutionary Workers's and Peasants' Government was formed.
