After six weeks of battle, Major Benjamin Lincoln who was commanding the Charleston garrison surrendered to the British. This is considered to be the worst American defeat in the War. -
Battle of Yorktown
General Washington commanding a force of 17,000 French and continental troops starts to battle against British General Lord Cornwallis and his some 9,000 British troops. This is considered the most important battle in the Revolutionary War.
