Hashtag Launch
Sometime in the month of Janurary 2011, Instagram launched the use of hashtags. This allowed for users to discover new photos, as well as other users. -
Instagram: Version 2.0
After nearly a year of gaining imense popularity (over 1 million users, over 150 uploads), Instagram launches version 2.0. With the new upgrade comes with a new user interface for it's camera settings that supports images with a resolution of up to 1936×1936. Instagram 2.1 Launch
This new upgrade comes with a sleeker, more modern-looking user interface.
After blogging app "Path" was recently discovered to delete it's user's stored contacts, Instagram now asks users whether or not they want to sync their contacts to the app.
This update also adds one new filter: Lux. -

Photo Map Launch
Instagram launches a new feature which allows users to tag a location on their photo, and add it to their individual "Photo Map." Users, and their followers can view their photo maps, and track the locations of all their geo-tagged photos. -

Now users can view Instagram on the web.

Instagram changes its terms and conditions, allowing itself the right to sell users' photos to third parties without notification or compensation, beginning January 16, 2013. -
Intagram Releases "We heard you, and we're listening" statement
Due to retaliation from popular Instagram users like Kim Kardashian, and National Geographic threatening to delete their accounts, Instagram releases a statement saying that they're working on their new policy, and will change it.
Later that day they release their new Terms and Conditions, retracting their previous policy granting them the rights to photos. -
Instagram Version 3.4.1
Instagram's new upgrade can translate 25 different languages making it easier for anyone around the world to sign up for an account.
The new release comes with a new filter: Mayfair.
You can also select photos from other albums on your phone--whereas previously, you could only select from your Camera Roll. -

Instagram launches a new upgrade for Apple that allows users to capture, and share video on there profiles. It also comes with 15 new filters, just for videos. -
Instagram posts can now be embedded
Instagram now allows instagrams posts to be embedded, by simply clicking the "Share" button on the web browser version of Instagram. -

Instagram 4.1 launches, allowing for Android users to upload videos as well.

Whereas before, users of instagram could only view their own profiles as well as their followers' on the web profiles, now they can search for people, places, and hashtasgs. -
Instagram opens up to non-squared photos
After years of having to crop photos into a square, Instagram finally supports landscape, and portrait-style photos.
