  • Navigation Acts

    (enacted in 1660s) List of trade items that could only be shipped within the British Empire. This basically allowed them to hold a type of monopoly on certain products.
    Was not as forcefully held until 100 years after its passing, in the 1760s.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This was a call for a halt of westward expansion by the British. The colonists responded by doing it anyway, because it could not be enforced. This showed the British government just how little power they had over the people in the west.   • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Required colonist merchants to pay a tax on all sugar or molasses. The colonists did not like this, because it raised the prices of all products that used sugar or molasses as an ingredient. The British government did not see why they were complaining since it was less than British taxes.   • Stamp Act - (1765)

    The Stamp Act of 1765 forced stamp duty on newspapers/other paper documents. The colonists decided to boycott using stamped paper. This made the British government lose money.
