    He learned to play the guitar by himself, also he learn to play saxophone and drums. Since child he was interested for art. He entered the School of Plastic Arts in San Juan de Puerto Rico and after graduating he obtained a scholarship to study at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, where he graduated in Fine Arts.

    When he finished his studies, he traveled to Spain, but there he didn't get job, then he decided to do cinematography courses. When he returned to Puerto Rico, he begun to write again. And he was presented to several records companies, but they weren't interested for him. But finally he was acepted when he was presented to White Lion Record company.

    Calle 13 was born as a family project, it was integrated by Residente (René Peréz), Visitante (Eduardo Cabra), stepbrother of René and Pg13 (Ileana Mercedes Cabra), sister of both. This band was characterized for mix genders, unusual instruments, and for the use of bold lyrics with which social problems were exposed; demonstrating its social commitment.

    It's the first album of the band, and it was the album wich Calle 13 was know internationally. With this album, Calle 13 received its first awards, winning the three categories to which the band was nominated.

    Entren los que quieran it was presented with the Sony Music Latin company. Is the most important album of Calle 13 because in this album the band showed it's social compromise of an incredible way, winning nine Latin Grammy Awards. In that album is the song called Latinoamerica, wich is considered a symbol of Latin America.

    In 2011 René met Soledad Fandiño, an Argentine actress with whom he married in 2013. She is mom of his first son, Milo.
    They were separated in 2017, but currently they have a good relation for their son.

    Milo is the only son of Resident, he was born in 2014 and is the inspiration for one of the most sensitive and profound Residente songs. This song is called MIlo, in honor of his son.

    Calle 13 was separated in 2015 when René decided start working as a soloist because he was feeling stagnant and he wanted to evolve as a musician. Currently, Visitante is working as musician producter and Ile is soloist singer equal than Residente.

    NOBEL SUMMIT PEACE AWARD
    Residente not only is the Latin American with the most Grammys awards won, he is also the first Latin American to receive the Nobel Summit Peace Award for his letters, social work and promotion of peace.

    It's the first album of Residente as a soloist. Which was inspired by the results of the DNA test. His first single, Somos Anormales, was directed by himself. In each single of this album, Residente has decided colaborate with artist off all world and the intention is clear. He wants demostrate that people of different culture, languaje and race can be together without problems and even can build magnific things.
