The Catholic Church- Avignon
Later on in 1301, after the pope tried to tax the clergy, the pope relocated. He moved to Avignon. After this move many people during this time felt as thought the church was more or less under French rule.

The king in 1301 tried to tax the french. More specifically the French Clergy. The king refused to pay these taxes and was arrested for not obeying what the pope said.

In 1377 there were 3 popes. One lived in Rome and passed away. When he passed away the cardinals elected 2 popes because they had differing opinions on who it should actually be. The church still could not agree on who the pope should be so they chose another pope.

Martin Luther nailed his theses on the door of the Lutherstadt Wittenberg’s Castle Church. These theses brought some accusations to the church and called the church out on some topics.

After he put the 95 theses on the church he went in front of the Diet of Worms. In January of 1521, he was officially excommunicated. -
