In 1452 Leonardo da Vinci, an artist, scientist and humanist, was born. In 1453, the Ottoman Empire conquered Constantinople and ended the Hundred Years' War. Johannes Gutenberg published the Gutenberg Bible in 1454, revolutionizing European literacy. In 1469, Lorenzo de Medici ruled Florence, considered the high point of the Florentine Renaissance. Sixtus IV was named pope in 1471 and continued construction projects in Rome, including the Sistine Chapel. -
