    She returned to Cork in 1754 where she opened the first school to educate poor Catholic children. More were opened as time went on.
  • Nano Nagle founded The Presentation Sisters

    The Presentation Sisters were founded to meet the needs of the poor in Ireland. She didn't like others not teaching the poor which made her want to establish this group, where they would then go around Cork City teaching the poor.
  • Edmund Rice founded the Congregation of Christian Brothers

    This was founded for the Christian education of poor boys. He educated for free in the time where education for everyone was no accepted. It is still a worldwide community within the Catholic Church.
  • Elizabeth Seton opened St Josephs Academy

    Elizabeth Seton opened this free school for the Catholic education of girls.
  • Catherine McAuley opened The House of Mercy

    The House of Mercy was a facility to house educate poor women. She opened the house to provide shelter for poor young unemployed women, women who were working in a domestic household who would be exposed to violence and to provide a free school for poor girls who had no education.
