Changes for the Committee
Leader of the uprising against King Louis XVI is removed from the Committee not long before Maximilien Robespierre is put into the lead position.
Cause and Effect- He wanted to do things like follow the ideas of the Sans-Coulette and take actions towards peace. Resulted in his removal.
Significance: It shows how some poeple have ideas that are positive but can be deny because that is not the approach that the majority of people want to take. -
The Convention calls for administrative and political purges
Jacques Roux and Jacques Hebert take over the convention. Cause and Effect- They managed to persuade the Convention to arrest 31 Girondin leaders.
Significance- it's important to the revolution because it sort of caused the conflict and it's important to us because the revolution all together changed things. -
Power Shifts
The Jacobins gained control of the Committee of Public Safety.
Cause and effect- The arrest of 31 Girodin leaders; installed the Revolutionary dictatorship.
Significance- It changed how things were going during the Revolution. -
French Constitution of 1793
The National Convention adopted the first republican constitution of France.
Cause and Effect: Drafted by the Committee of Public Safety; Employed universal male suffrage.
Significance: Inspired by the Decleration of The Rights of A Man, it established rights for citizens. -
Assasionation of Jean-Paul Marat
Marat was murdered by Charlotte Corday.
Cause and Effect: Marat's bloodthristy antics; More influence of Jacobin politics.
Significance: It shows the strength in the different political groups involved in the revolution. -
Committee of Public Safety
Maximilien Robespierre becomes leader of the Committee of Public Safety. Cause and Effect- By Robespierre becoming the leader of a powerful group, things that were going on significantly changed.
Significance- The Committee made powerful desicions during the Reign Of Terror. -
The Death Penalty is Instituted
The death penalty was put in place for the people in the society considered "bad". hoarders of grain and other 'blood-suckers', including currency speculators.
Cause and Effect: The Consitiution of France; the effect was violent repression and actions. -
The Terror Begins
The first events of the reign of terror begin. -
Sans- Coulette is established
A revolutionary army was put into place to make farmers surrender their grain wanted by the government.
Cause and Effect: The laws and reforms previously passed cause the need for this taking place. The effect was extended price- fixing on grain on September 29th. -
Law of Suspects
On this day, the Law of Suspects was passed which allowed the charging of counter-revolutionaries with a crime simply called "crimes against liberty".
Cause and Effect: The Sans-coulette and overall violent approach to everything during this time.
Significance: It showed how important it was to the government for things to go the way that they wanted. -
Revolutionary Calender is Put Into Place
The Revolutionary Calender was one put into place to remove all religious and royalist influences from the calender.
Cause and Effect: The cause was the aethist movement started by Hébert and Chaumette. The effect was the instituition of a "Civic religion".
Significance: It shows how with new people in power things that change drastically. -
Robespierre Speaks on Constitutional Government
Robespierre talks about the French Constitution and states "The goal of the constitutional government is to conserve the Republic; the aim of the revolutionary government is to found it... The revolutionary government owes to the good citizen all the protection of the nation'
Cause and effect: The French Constitution of 1793
Significance: It shows what the aim of the Terror and actions that took place within it were. -
Members of the National Convention turn
people feared there own safety and started to turn on robespierre.

Robespierre is Overthrown
After the Battle of Fleurus on June 26th and a military victory over Austria, Robespierre was overthrown.
Cause and Effect: People wanted more power for the Committee of Public Safety, and a more radical policy than he was willing to allow.
Significance: It was the end of the Reign of Terror, an multitude of events and time period that changed the country of France. -
Plan of new Goverment
Moderate leaders in the national convention started to draft a new plan for the goverment. cause people got sick of what was happening during the reign of terror effect placed power fimily in the hands of the upper middle class and called for a two-five were moderates not revoluionary idealists
