Reframing Administration: Past, Present, and Future Timeline

  • 212 BCE

    Classical Period: (anything before 500)

Archimedes (287-212 BCE) was a Greek inventor and great mathematician who discovered the Archimedes screw, a device that raises water. He was the beginning element o creating calculus, way before algebra was invented, and he determined the exact value of pi. These accomplishments are what made his leadership a great success because of him we still use his inventions to this day. I would consider him one of the leaders we learned about in week 5, leading to make a change.

    Middle Ages: (500-1400)

Wu Zetian (624-705) was a Chinese empress who was the most important person in China at one point in time. She was the only woman in Chinese history to officially rule China from 690-705. She used her leadership abilities and positive group dynamics lead to an increase in the prosperity of China and winning may military victories abroad.
  • 1519

    Renaissance Reformation: (1400-1648)

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was a renaissance man who was a very talented painter, scientist, and inventor. According to Cubeiro, (2008) the great lesson of Leonardo’s life and works is that genius is not a question of genetics but of boldness. Leonardo was multi-faceted but in today’s society there is more room for someone to be zoned into a specialized skill.
  • Enlightenment: (1650-1789)

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) was one of the founder fathers of America. His talent and ambition led him to be a great leader. He was an entrepreneur who always persevered. Being a good leader, you must be able to persevere no matter what role you play in your organization. One of the best leadership traits about Benjamin is that he is an inspiration. He showed that no matter what you can work your way up the ladder to become one of the wealthiest men around.
  • Ages of Progress: (1789-1914)

Booker T. Washington (1865-1915) was an influential leader who urged blacks to accept discrimination for the time and to try and prove themselves through hard work and material prosperity. He was a leader who believed in social equality and that is still something great leaders need to believe in today.
  • Modern Period: (1914-2000)

Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) was the 40th president of the United States. His leadership skills included public speaking and great communication. During his time of leadership he was able to decrease inflation and unemployment rates. After the derailed leadership that led to Richard Nixon resigning after the Watergate scandal left most Americans leery of the next president. Reagan was able to use his strength in communication to lead the American people to store America to its powerful state.
  • Modern Period: (1914-2000)

Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) was a three-time elected female leader. She fought a war, got the British to turn the economy and politics around, got the “post-war consensus” ended. She had followership, including the British and Europeans. She has such a great leadership style her group would be considered the conformist followers that we learned about in week 3. They believed in her and everything she stood for so these people were highly active in following her orders with no questions
