The Metis people
The Metis people were some of the first people in Canada. They lived in Manitoba when the Confederation came but they were tricked into living somewhere else because most of them didn't know how to read or write. -
Manitoba joining Confederation
Manitoba joined the Confederation on July, 15th 1870. -
Why Manitoba?
Manitoba means: "Water of the prairie" and since the land that they owned had lots of water it only made sense. When Manitoba started it was a very small piece of land but over time we see that it has obviously grown into a bigger province. -
Louis Riel
Louis Riel is an important part of Canadian history because he believed very strongly that the railroad should be built, but because he had power and his voice mattered to people, others didn't like that and on November 16th 1885 Louis was executed. -
Why was Louis Riel important to Canadian history?
Louis was important to our history because he was one of the main people who helped Manitoba become what we know it as today. If it weren't for him, Manitoba might not be how we see it as today.
