Alt-J is formed
Alt-J was formed when Gwil Sainsbury(Guitar/bass), Joe Newman(Guitar/ Lead Vocals), Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboards/Vocals) and Thom Green (drums) met at Leeds University. -
After graduating they move to Cambridge
Alt-J graduates from Leeds and Moves to Cambridge, spending two years rehearsing before signing a deal with Infectious Records in December 2011. -
Alt-J sign with Infectious Records
Their self-titled first 4-track EP, was recorded with producer Charlie Andrew in London. -
"An Awesome Wave" is released.
Released on May 25, Alt-J's first album includes 14 songs.

Alt-J win British Mercury Prize
In 2012, alt-J's debut album won the British Mercury Prize. Alt-J were also nominated for three Brit Awards (British Breakthrough Act, British Album of the Year and British Group of the Year) -
The bassist Gwil Sainsbury left the band in January 2014.
In a message posted on their twitter page, they said it was a personal decision by their guitarist and bass player, and they support his decision to leave. -
Band announces "This Is All Yours"
On June 9, 2014, the band announced the release of their second album This Is All Yours, as well as putting pre-orders for the album on their website.The album is scheduled to be released on September 22, 2014, released as a download, on CD and double vinyl.

Hunger of The Pine is realesed
"Hunger of the Pine" was one of several songs written by Alt-J following bassist Gwil Sainsbury's departure from the band in January 2014. It samples the words "I'm a female rebel" from Miley Cyrus's 2013 song "4x4". -
