Phonograph
The first machine to record sound and playback was the phonograph, The american inventor Thomas Edison invented in 1877. -
Gramophone
11 years later, in 1888 Emile Berliner invented a similar phonograph called gramophone but this new invention, instead of a cylindrical drum the sounds were stored on a flat disc. -
Walkman
Nobutoshi Kihara was an employee of Sony corporation and invented the walkman in 1979, in Japan. Walkman’s could not record sound but they were an instant success. -
Compact discs
Compact discs invented by electronics companies Philips and Sony in Japan around the 1980 the sound is recorded digitally as a series of numbers. A compact disc player uses a laser beam to sean the disc and play the sound. -
Nowadays
Now all the people listen to music on their computers or download music from the internet onto their mobile phones.
