General Lee had a small skrimionks. Robert E. Lee realized there was no choice but to surrender. A meeting lasted approximately two & one-half hours & it is conclusion the bloodiest conflict in the nation's history neared its end. -
Abraham Lincoln Assassinated
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated five days after the commander of the Confederate Army surrendered. John Wilks Booth fatally shot President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C. Lincoln was then carried across the street to Petersen's Borading House, he died early the next morning. -
13th Amendement Ratified
It outlawed slavery & involuntary servitude. It was the first of three Reconstrucion Admendments adopted after the American Civil War. The proclamation did not free any slaves in the border states nor did it abolish slavery. -
14th Amendment Ratified
It granted citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States." The proposed 14th Admendment was rejected by more than one-forth of all states. The 14th Admendment to the U.S. Constitution. -
Henry McNeal Turner elected to Senate
Henry McNeal Turner was a minister. He was elected as the 1st southern bishop of the AME Church. He was a church pioneer organizer. -
15th Amendment Ratified
They wanted the 15th Admendment to obtain the vote of the freed slaves.The promise of the 15th admendent would not be fully realized for a century.The ratification by the requisite three/forth of the state. -
Georiga Readmitted to the Union
Georgia was the 1st readmitted to the Union in 1868. It is legislature refused to seat. Georgia is the last former Confederate state to be readmitted to the Union. -
Election of Rutherford B. Hayes
Rutherford B. Hayes kept pledge not to run for re-election. He fought in the Civil War. Hayes pledged protection of the rights of Negroes in the South.
