Ten Percent Plan.
This plan was made by President Lincoln, who was trying to recontruct the United States. This plan meant that any Southern State could be readmitted into the Union once 10% of its voters swore to the union allegiance. -
Vetoed Wade-Davis Bill
The Wade-Davis bill was a bill made for the Reconstruction of the South. This Bill was similar to the 10% plan but this bill stated that southern states could rejoin the union if 50% of its voters swore an "ironclad oath" allegiance to the United States. -
President Lincoln Re-elected
Many Northerners loved Lincoln's leadership and policies, because of the amount of people that loved so much, he was reelected. -
13th Amendment
The 13th amendment abolished slavery! It was ratifed on December 6th by congress. -
End of civil war
At Appomattox, Virginia, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrenders his 28,000 troops to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, which lead to the end of the war, causing the Union to win! -
Abraham Lincoln assasinated
On this day, one of the most favorited president was asassinated by John Wilkes Booth. Booth obviously disagreed waith Lincoln's ideas and ways, in fact he was a confederate sympathizer. Booth shot Lincoln during a show at Ford's Thetare in Washington, DC. Andrew Johnson, a family member of Lincoln took his place in office. -
Freedmen's Bureau
Freedmans Bureau was established by the Congress to help freed slaves and poor white men in the South during reconstruction. -
Mississippi's first black code
After the Civil War, Southern states passed laws then restricted the rights of the freed blacks, and made some unfair changes to their freedom. -
End of reconstruction?
Andrew Johnson believed that reconstruction was "over" or "complete". Many others disagreed with his decision. Radical Republicans were upset about this, and decided to unacknowledge new Souther States. -
Radical Republicans
Radical Republicans were people apart of American politicans and were in the Republican party. They believed in equal rights of blacks. They wanted to redo reconstruction. -
Reconstruction Acts
The first reconstruction act was also known as the military reconstruction act. These acts basically divided the South into 5 military districts. -
Johnson Impeached
Andrew Johnson was impeached for his "high crimes and misdemeanors" during office. -
Ulysses S Grant elected
Grant was elected in a tight election, and soon became He the symbol of Union victory during the Civil War. -
14th Amendment Ratified
The 14th amendment granted citizenship to all who were born or naturalized in America. -
Sharecropping
This was when black families would rent small plots of land in return of crops to the landowner. -
15 Amendment
This amendment gave citizens of any race, color or previous condition, the right to vote. -
Enforcement Acts
These were three acts passed by the Congress which granted African-Americans the right to vote, recieve equal protection on laws, and serve on juries. -
Freedmen Bureau termination
This bureau was terminized becaused many disgareed that freed African-Americans should recieve free land, including the president, which shot down the bureau altogether. -
Amnesty act of 1872
A law passed by congress that aloowed rebellions from the Civil War to vote. -
Compromise of 1877
An unformal deal that settled the disputes about presidency, and ended the reconstructional era.
