13th amendment ratified
The 13th amendment was passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, the 13th amendment was where there would be no more slavery in the US except as a punishment for crime. On december 6th 1865 the amendment was ratified by congress. -
Ku Klux Klan is founded
The Ku Klux Klan was founded on December 24th 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee. It was founded by a group of confederate veterans as a social club for former confederate soldiers. The Ku Klux Klan soon became a terrorist organization. The Ku Klux Klan were responsible for thousands of deaths, and would help to weaken the political power of southern blacks and republicans. -
Civil Rights Act Of 1866
The Civil Rights Act of 1866 was passed by Congress on 9th April 1866. The act declared that all persons born in the United States were now citizens, without regard to race, color, or previous condition. Andrew Johnson wanted to veto it but congress
overrode it. -
15th amendement ratified
The 15th Amendment to the United States Constitution was passed by Congress on February 26, 1869, and ratified by the states on February 3, 1870.The 15th amendment prohibited the federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's "race, color, or previous condition of servitude". Civil Rights Act Of 1875
Created and introduced to congress by Charles Sumner and Benjamin Butler It promised that everyone regardless of race or color, could enjoy and stay at inns, public conveyances on land or water, theaters, and other places of public amusement.This meant former enslaved people can enjoy activities they could not enjoy before. But in 1883 the Supreme Court declared the act as unconstitutional and said that Congress did not have the power to the regulate the conduct of individuals.
