The 10 Percent Plan
Abrahams Lincolns plan to reinstate the south into the Union was to go easy on them due to the fact that saving the union was his end goal. His plan required only 10 percent of the population of a southern state to swear an oath of alligance. -
Freedmens Burea Estalished
The Freedmens Burea was established in 1865 by congress in order to help provide homes, education, and food to newly freed African-Americans and poor whites. -
Black Codes
Southern States passed the Black Codes in 1865 which limited the rights of African-Americans. This included the inability for any freedman to carry a fire arm unless they were in the military, or their ability to hold meetings. -
14th Amendment
Congress passes the 14th Amendment in 1866. This Amendment gave citizenship to anyone born within the U.S., and it prohibited any state from interfering with the rights of any citizen. -
15th Amendment
The 15th Amendment was ratified in 1870 and gave African-Americans the right to vote in political matters. It prohibits the federal government of any state from denying any citizen the right to vote.
