Black Codes
The legislaters made passed laws for the south. These laws are called black codes. These laws were made to help control the newly freed african americans. -
14th Amenment
This Amenment was about freeing slaves. Also lincoln set it up so people could not touch them. -
civil rights act of 1866
In 1866 there was a bill passed that gave freedmans bureu new powers. It also gave the federal government power. They could protect african american rights. -
reconstruction
Congress passed a law that the states had to have their own government. Only Tenessee kept their government and joined the union. The 10 states were divided into five military districts. -
15th amenment
This allowed african americans the right to vote. The white voters could not touch them. The Republicans thought there job was done.
