Freedmen's Bureau
This was established in 1865by congress to help black slaves and poor whites in the south. After the civil war. The freedmen's Bureau provided food, housing, and medical aid. It also established schools and offered legal assistance. In 1872 congress shut down the bureau due to pressure from white southerns. -

The end of the Civil War took place at the Appomattox courthouse. Where General Lee and General Grant signed a treaty.The courthouse is located in Virginia. -
Abraham Lincoln Assassinated
Only five days after Lee's surrender, Abraham was shot. Abraham and his wife were attending a play in the teater but were brutally interumpted by a gun man. Whose name was J.W. Booth, he shot Lincoln in the back of head at 10:15pm. Abraham deid the following morning at 7:22am. -
13th Amendment Ratified
The ratification came only 8 months after the war ended. This amendment ended slavery. Although many north Democrats and Republicans were agianst slavery expansion they were hesitant about outlawing slavery entirely. -
Henry McNeal Turner elected to Senate
turner was among the first group reconstrustion-era of african american elected officails.He was among the two state senators and twenty-five black Republicans state representatives elected to serve in the Georgia legislature. Turner stood before the assembled represenatives, on September 3, 1868 and denouced the legislators who had refused to seat the african american senators and represenatives. -
14th Amendment Ratified
This amendment granted citizenship, equal civil rights, and legal rights to the african americans and slaves. Also the slaves who had been emancipated after the American Ciivil War and the ones under the umbrella phrase. The amendment comprises five sections. -
15th Amendment Ratified
The amendment gave African-American men the right to vote on March 30, 1870.Despite the amendment in the late 1870s various discrimanator practices were used to prevent African-Americans their right to vote especially in the south.Decades after discrimination, the voting rights act of 1965 aimed to overcome legal barriors at the state and local level that denied blacks their right to vote under the 15th amendment. -
Georiga Readmitted to the Union
Georiga was the last state to be readmitted to the union. -
Election of Rutherford B. Hayes
He was the 19th president of the United States. As president he oversaw the end of reconstruction and the United States entry into the second industrial Revolution. He was born in Delaware Ohio.
