Lincoln, his wife, and friends went to enjoy a lovely play at Ford's Theater, but the event turned to joyful to a horrible tragedy. Booth, a sneaky rascal , sneaked up in to Abramham's private box. He took a gun and shot him in the back of head. -
13th Amendment Ratifed
This was the Amendment that outlawed slavery. It also canceled The Ordinance of Secession and all wartime debts. They had to write a new constitution that concluded a provision abolishing slavery. -
Henry McNealTurner elected to Senate
He was among first group of reconstruction era African Americans elected officials. September 3,1868, Turner stood in front of Assembled representatives. He denouced the legislature who had refused to seat African Americans. -
14th Amendment Ratified
This Amendment grants citizenship to all people born or naturalized in the USA. It forbids any state to deny anybody life, liberty, and property without due process of laws. Other groups tried to us this to further their cause. -
15th Amendment Ratified
This Amendment gave African Americans right to vote. It made no mention of male or female. The votes were 39 to 13(senate) 144 to 44(house). -
Georgia Readmitted to the Union
Georgia was readmitted twice. It got kicked out when Georgia refuesed to follow the 15 amendment. In 1870, they got readmitted. -
Election of Rutherford B. Hayes
He won over Samuel Tilden who had more popular votes. He was the 19th president of USA. He promised the end of reconstruction.
